Overview

The Institutional Giving Manager, reporting to the Director of Development, will create and maintain a language bank that articulately describes SRA’s work and the need for giving, framed in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. This repository will be continually augmented with data and updates on trends to craft compelling arguments for supporting SRA. The manager will also independently plan, write, and submit compelling letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and sponsorship requests, employing high-quality stewardship and relationship-building strategies.

SRA is currently working remotely with opportunities to meet in person with adherence to SRA’s In-person Meeting policies. Candidates should live in the Bay Area or be willing to travel at their own expense for in-person meetings. SRA does not employ staff who live outside of the state of California.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Schedule and conduct in-person and virtual meetings with corporate partners and foundations to discuss funding opportunities and partnership enhancements.
    • Identify and secure sponsorship for various programs and events.
    • Research and prospect new corporate and foundation partners.
    • Cultivate and steward ongoing relationships to ensure long-term engagement and support.
    • Prepare regular updates for presentation to the larger SRA team and the Board of Directors.
    • Create and maintain grant files.
    • Provide timely and professional responses to inquiries regarding grant and sponsorship status, compliance, procedures, and future opportunities.
    • Document grant and sponsorship processing procedures to enhance administrative efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Review and approve spending plans, and monitor budgets and forecasts for each grant and sponsorship opportunity.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, ensuring flexibility and teamwork.
    • Provide coverage for colleagues during time off, maintaining continuity of critical functions and upholding SRA’s commitment to our partners and stakeholders.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Demonstrated understanding of and a genuine commitment to supporting first-generation and low-income students.
    • Proficiency in Salesforce or similar CRM and grants management systems, with experience in Asana as a bonus.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling fundraising narratives.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills, capable of meeting deadlines and managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.
    • Commitment to a personal and professional exploration of power and privilege, including a willingness to self-reflect and experience discomfort in difficult and transformative conversations. Previous progress along this journey required.
  • Education and Experience:
    • A minimum of 3 years of experience in nonprofit development, specifically in grant writing and corporate fundraising, or equivalent experience in related fields with transferable skills.
  • Other Requirements
    • Holds self accountable and consistently produces quality work
    • Candidates should enjoy working remotely and must reside in the SF Bay Area, as the position involves in-person workshops and meetings with companies and staff.

Compensation

The annual salary for this role is $87,000. Students Rising Above (SRA) offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. SRA takes internal and external pay equity and pay parity seriously and compensates staff members fairly in relation to each other and similar roles in similar sized organizations. Given this deep commitment to equity, SRA does not negotiate salary offers.

SRA also offers medical, dental and vision benefits after 60 days of employment. We cover 75% of the cost for employees and 50% for dependents. Additionally, SRA offers access to virtual mental health counseling via TalkSpace, 11 paid holidays, a professional development stipend, a flexible vacation policy, self care days, paid sick time, a 403b plan and monthly technology stipends.
