Panelist:
Gayle Roberts, Chief Development Officer, Larkin Street Youth Services
At the age of six, I had my first taste of fundraising — hosting a Muscular Dystrophy Association Carnival, complete with pin the tail on the donkey. Now, as a professional fundraiser, I draw on 35 years of nonprofit management experience and for-profit business ownership.

I have helped raise over $200,000,000 for San Francisco Bay Area good causes.

Working across race, class, age, gender, sexuality, and ability, I aim to foster a world that embraces people for who they are and encourages them to live their dreams.

Panelist:
Jacob Ittycheria, Director of Development, Openhouse
I am a South Asian/Indian 46 year old gay man (he/his) born in Nigeria, raised in New Jersey, lived in Chicago and have lived in California for almost 13 years (SoCal for 10 years and now celebrating my third year in San Francisco). I got the itch for fundraising in 2014 when I participated in AIDS/LifeCycle, a 545-mile fundraising cycling event from San Francisco to Los Angeles. My career went from being a Treatment Advocate for a pharmacy to becoming a Development Manager for AIDS/LifeCycle at the Los Angeles LGBT Center. From there, I was recruited for a job in SF as a Major Gifts Officer at San Francisco AIDS Foundation and currently serve as Director of Development at Openhouse, an organization dedicated to providing programs, services and housing to our LGBTQ+ older adults.

I’ve learned a lot about myself being a person of color and working in fundraising. One thing I am very passionate about is finding out why people connect to an organization in the first place. Everyone wants to be heard and everyone has a story to share. My job is the connect people to the organization through story telling.
